Are You A Coward?

Are you a coward?

Blogging gives everyone a voice, the problem is some bloggers and commenters are cowards. If you have received negative comments on your blog you might understand what I am talking about. If you have left negative comments on a blog it might be time to look in the mirror and ask yourself, “Am I a coward?”

2 Types of Cowards

I’m specifically talking about 2 types of cowards.

  1. Coward Commenters — These cowards leave hateful, nonconstructive, and negative comments, but what really sets these chickens apart is that they make sure to use fake email addresses and websites (or no email or website) when leaving their droppings. These a-holes know that if they acted the way they do online in a public setting they would be pummeled within an inch of their miserable lives. If you are a coward commenter there is an easy fix : show some testicular fortitude and if you are going to leave a comment leave your real email address or the url for your website.

One of the best ways to deal with these hit-and-run comment cowards is to delete their comments. Yes, I said delete their comments. If someone does not have the nads to be honest about who they are, then why should you play a part in spreading their droppings? It’s not the fact that they disagree with you that should prompt you to mark their comments as spam, (disagreements can lead to some of the best conversations) its the fact that they don’t even have enough respect for you (our themselves) to be honest about who they truly are.

  2. Coward Bloggers — There is hope for this type of coward. Coward bloggers keep most of their opinions to themselves because they are afraid someone might disagree with them or god forbid not like them. If you want to run a blog where cowards congregate then by all means never express your opinions, however taking risks is what life and great blogging is all about.

A great blog post is more than likely going to offend and/or challenge conventional thinking. My post Legalize Marijuana: Are you crazy? really upset some potheads, and really attracted the comment cowards. You would think comment cowards would realize if they are to afraid to post their real information then their position on the issue is probably illegal or deep down they know they are wrong.

If you had a gun to your head

Blog like Your Life Depends On It!

In a recent interview with problogger Darren Rowse, Tim Ferris the author of The 4-Hour Workweek asked a compelling question,

If you had a gun against your head to double your readership in two weeks, what would you do? I’m serious. If you absolutely had to, what would you do? (link)

I’ll tell you what I would do, I would gather all my courage and post like a blogging superstar. There’s no room for cowards.

Question — How can we be more courageous bloggers?

If you had a gun to your head would you subscribe to this blog? Nobodies forcing you so if you liked this post go ahead, subscribe!

  1. I sometimes receive anonymous hate reactions, but I just leave them online and start a discussion to get back at them. That usually does the trick because other readers join me…

  2. Tam

I don’t get it. If someone doesn’t have strong opinions and the ego to go with them, why blog in the first place? I thought that was the whole point to the exercise…

  3. coos I used to leave haterz comments alone, (I still leave most of them) it is mainly the people that lie about their info and just come to the site to hate that I delete. Some of the haterz comments can lead to a discussion, but most are stinky troll droppings.

Tam that’s what I thought also, but there are many bloggers that get scared to ruffle feathers when they disagree with a higher ranked blogger. Be passionate or just be, that is the question.

  4. Well the root of the problem is that there are too many Cheifs and not enough Braves.
Now, by this I am saying that there are a lot of people online that are being crabs and try to pull us bloggers down, by calling us liars.

  5. I agree with you about those anonymous commenters with negative comments. Their comments simply don’t deserve to be posted if they are not brave enough to face the consequences of their actions.

  6. True. People won’t gain anything for posting those useless comments. With their comments deleted, they don’t have much of a choice. It’s just a waste of their time.

  7. Marie Thanks for your comment. I love comments even criticisms.

  8. Wild Bill, we were both linked on Ben’s Blogging Experiment site so I decided to check out your blog. I agree with you about negative commenters. I haven’t been blogging long enough to get any yet. Thanks for your comments along those lines. I really like your Daily Happiness Facts. I was feeling a little down and tired until I read a few of them. Thanks.

  9. Patricia, I love Ben’s site. It is a lot like what I am trying to do over the next 2 years. I have 2 years until my youngest son is old enough to go to school. I either have to be making a good living by blogging or I have to go back to working for someone else. Glad my happiness facts brightened your day. ;)

  10. I’m afraid…

    to blog in the dark.
