Australian Digger Major Scott Watkins Receives Britain’s Distinguished Flying Cross
(ht Voice of the Pacific) There are heroes among us, one in particular, Major Scott Watkins. Major Watkins was awarded one of Britain’s highest military honors the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), for his bravery while serving in Iraq. From smh.com.au:
High flying hero wins DFC
An Australian army officer credits his years of training for the instinctive actions that have won him Britain’s Distinguished Flying Cross while serving in Iraq.
Major Scott Watkins was on secondment to the British army when he piloted a helicopter to safety after it had been damaged by enemy fire which also injured his co-pilot near Baghdad on November 10 last year.
His bravery in that incident, and again a few days later when another helicopter he was piloting was also hit by enemy fire, have earnt Major Watkins, 34, the first DFC for an Australian in 33 years.
The DFC is one of Britain’s highest military honours, awarded for “an act or acts of valour, courage or devotion to duty whilst flying in active operations against the enemy”. (continue reading)
We should thank the courageous Australian Digger’s who have served along side American troops in Iraq. Let us never forget the brave soldiers that fight and perform above and beyond the call of duty.
Why is it that the MSM does not show us stories like this instead of the endless negative stories each night about Iraq?
