Best Way To Install Windows Vista

My current laptop is struggling. We will be getting our Federal tax money (that was stolen from us) back very soon and I have decided it is time to buy a new laptop. One of the things that has scared the the juice out of me about buying a new computer is that they are all preloaded with Microsoft Windows Vista (hell there website even slows your computer down.) The hardware requirements for Windows Vista are frightening and all I see that Vista has over Windows XP is slicker graphics. What does Vista have that I need?
Buying a new computer with a better processor, more memory, and a better graphics card sounds great until you discover that the new operating software on the computer is going to use all those recourses. Why in the hell would you want to install an operating system that hogs all your system resources? TexasFred sent me a video that shows a better way of installing Microsoft Windows Vista. So far this video seems to be the best way to install Windows Vista.

What a great idea. I’ll have to try it when I get my new laptop.
Why not upgrade to You 2.0 instead?

That’s the best way to install it, that’s for sure!
I put it on a test/development machine only to find out MICROSOFT’S OWN DEVELOPMENT tools don’t work with it! That’s correct, you can’t use Microsoft Visual Studio to develop on Windows Vista!

That really scares me. The laptop I am buying very soon comes with Vista preloaded. Once I get it I will do reviews on Vista good and bad.
I does not surprise me that Microsoft’s own programs do not work with Vista. It seems to me their main motivation for making Vista is so that everyone will have to upgrade their computers and software. Vista is like washing and waxing a Pinto, might look good but it is still a Pinto.

It’s still early yet, you can probably specify that you want XP instead. At least I know you still can with Dell.
If you aren’t getting a dell, see if you can order it with no OS, and just obtain a copy of XP to put on it.

Well I actually love Microsoft Mike, just wish they would have spent more time creating a version of Vista that runs super fast, does not crash 3 times a day, does not hog all your system resources. I might have another Mac someday but not anytime soon. Linux don’t make me laugh.
Glad to hear you are a Microsoft shareholder, I will be too someday. Can you tell me other than looks why in the hell should anyone change to Vista? Why? I love the look, but what can it do for me that XP cannot do, besides keep every software creator scrambling to upgrade their software to work for an operating system that just looks better and has parental controls?
With all that said the laptop I am getting will be preloaded with Vista and I am getting Office 2007. I have my backup copy of Xp and Office 2003 if I need it. I will give Vista a try, however no one yet has been able to explain to me why it took Microsoft 5 years to upgrade some graphics.

There are some revamps and new things, but nothing that makes me think I should convince you to switch…

Call Dell, order, I say ORDER son, dang, that boy is about as sharp as a bowling ball… Order what YOU want..
Vista is turning out to be a bigger turkey than Windows M.E. was…

Mike thanks for the response although I disagree with government busting monopolies I do like the idea of “scrappy competitors.” If I had the money I would buy another Dell in a heartbeat, but I am going to have to settle for a BestBuy special (or find someone I trust on Ebay). I have about $1,200 to spend on a new laptop. Here is what I would like to have.
Also would love to get a copy of PhotoShop CS2 without paying $619. Not saying I shouldn’t have to pay for it, I’m not a thief, however $619 is a littl steep for my pocket book.
I plan on calling Dell and seeing if they can put together a system I need for the money I have to spend. When I put it together at their site it comes out to about $1,600.

Von the Walmart HPs are a possibility. Thanks I looked on their site a week ago and did not see that one.
Mike, I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 now ($5,000 4-6 years ago, bought it new when I had a high paying job.) I have loved it. I will call Dell and see if I can get someone that will go through all their available systems new or used. The graphics card I need is the hardest part to match with the price.
I use Microsoft Digital Image Suite right now to make all my graphics. It is great for the money ($19.95 at Wal-Mart). I am currently teaching myself to do more advanced website design, so I am looking into getting PhotoShop so I can design better graphics and sites.
I found one option to get PhotoShop cheaper, seems on the verge of being unethical. Some people are selling their old versions of PhotoShop along with the $149 upgrade version. You simply install the old version then run the upgrade version and wallah you have a full version of PhotoShop for around $249. Seems a little shady, but it might have to be the option I go with until I design a few sites and make enough money to buy CS3 when it comes out. :ninja:

I have seen a lot of places offer XP with a free upgrade to Vista, and that is the way I would go given a choice. Just shelve the Vista for a year or so while everyone else tests it and the kinks get ironed out, then install it some time after the first service pack comes out. That way you have a reliable OS until they get Vista fixed, and you don’t have to pay for Vista when it comes time to upgrade.
