Fred Thompson Pro-Murder-Choice Or Pro-Life?

Fred Thompson

If I had to choose today which of the Republican presidential hopefuls I think would make the best candidate, I would choose Fred Thompson. Little known fact about Fred Thompson: Fred Thompson is not going bald, his hair is just afraid of him. I think Frank J sums it up best on why Fred is the best person to lead this country, “If you took Chuck Norris, Jack Bauer, Optimus Prime, a .50 caliber Desert Eagle, a samurai sword, nachos, the lobby scene from the mov[i]e Matrix, the computer game Doom, and a DVD set of the complete A-Team series and somehow took all their awesomeness and compressed into one thing, you’d still only have something half as awesome as what Fred Thompson flushes down the toilet after taking a crap.” With that said I find myself wondering how Fred is going to explain his flip on the issue of abortion baby murder.

The American Spectator has been doing their homework on Fred and has discovered another little known fact about Fred:

In the interview, Thompson was asked: “Some conservatives got flustered by your comments on abortion and Roe vs. Wade. Would you like to explain your position on abortion?”

Thompson answered: “Government should stay out of it. No public financing. The ultimate decision must be made by the woman. Government should treat its citizens as adults capable of making moral decisions on their own.” (link)

This quote was from 1994 and I have to give Fred an opportunity to explain his switch or he might stop my heart with his stare. Fred please do not use your powers to melt steel on me, but I have to ask this question, “When was your coming to Jesus moment regarding your switch on baby murder?”

What is a coming to Jesus moment?

People can and do change their stance on major issues all the time. Some politicians do it for votes (John Kerry and most of the Democrats) while others have a life changing event that causes them to reflect upon their stance on an issue and totally change their view. Most religious people can tell you the exact moment and the events surrounding the exact moment when the accepted Jesus as their savior. This life changing event is what I call a coming to Jesus moment.

I believe that a change in thinking–like the moment you go from believing murdering babies is a choice to when you are smacked into the reality that attaching the word choice to the murder of babies is intellectually dishonest–is a moment in time that you will never forget. It is a life changing event the day you realize that you have been lying to yourself and the world in an attempt to justify the fact that you do not want to be personal responsible for your choices toward unprotected sex. I remember vividly the day my world changed and I realized that abortion was nothing more than a made up word for baby murder.

Fred Thompson, you got some explaining to do!

Fred, when was your coming to Jesus moment about baby murder? I believe you are the best candidate so far for president in 2008, however I cannot support or endorse you for president until this question is answered. If I find out Fred Thompson has changed his view to get votes then I will not vote for him. If on the other hand Fred has had an honest to God coming to Jesus moment I would love to hear the details.

  1. A deal breaker for you Pro-Life Republicans. But for us more Socially Tolerant, more libertarian-minded Republicans, it makes us feel better about Fred.

Looks like you Social Cons are hurting these days. I don’t mean to rub it in, cause, in the end I like you guys MUCH BETTER(!!!), than those jerkoff Leftists.

But I just saw some latest poll numbers on the GOP side from Gallup.

Rudy is way, way ahead. McCain, Romney and Fred Thompson are in the teen range.

Your guys Brownback and Huckabee are at 1% each. Ouch! That hurts.

Olive branch from us libertarian Republicans:

We are with you all on about 80 to 90% of what you want on abortion. We are in favor of parental notification laws, ending government funding of abortions (maybe tiny exception here to save the life of the mother?), and most definitely with you all on dissallowing late term abortions.

All those goals are attainable. We libertarian Republicans will help you to achieve those worthy objectives.

    Can’t you all accept that?

If Huckabee or Brownback were higher in the polls against the Four Frontrunners, all of whom are to varying degrees essentially Pro-Choice, then you all would have some bargaining room here.

But 1 friggin’ percent!! That sucks!

I think it’s time for you all to do some compromising with us libertarian Republicans.

  2. Eric we can work together, but I will not compromise on my values. Killing babies is not a choice it is murder and I will not compromise on that. I am very close to being a libertarian myself, except for the baby murder and legalize drugs thing. I will not vote for Rudy or McCain and I am unhappy with Romney about a few things.

I would be willing to talk to you about the issues you would compromise on.

And as for you “libertarians” whose raison d’etre is all about “being free,” your “freedoms” don’t mean diddly unless your right to exist as a human being remains intact.

Just look above and thank GOD that you survived Roe v. Wade.

National Right to Life Committee on Fred Thompson:

“This morning, I cited reports being promoted by the pro-Romney blog Evangelicals for Mitt suggesting that Fred Thompson ran his two campaigns for Senate in Tennessee as a pro-choicer. Not so, National Right to Life executive co-director Darla St. Martin just told me.

St. Martin said that she went down to Tennessee in 1994 to speak with Thompson personally when he first ran for Senate, and that she determined he was against abortion.

‘I interviewed him and on all of the questions I asked him, he opposed abortion,’ St. Martin said. She told me that the group went on to support him in that election, and his record reinforced for her that their determination was correct.

‘He has a consistent voting record that is pro-life,’ she said.

On the NRLC website, they archive their congressional ratings back to 1997, so they include six of his eight years in the Senate. Thompson took the pro-life position on every vote he cast on the abortion issue…”

You’re a little late to the campfire, this has been brought up and shot down already.

On the NRLC website, they archive their congressional ratings back to 1997, so they include six of his eight years in the Senate. Thompson took the pro-life position on every vote he cast on the abortion issue. The only reason he didn’t have a 100% rating is that, as Jim pointed out, the ratings also include votes on campaign finance reform, which he supported.”

  6. Wild Bill,

Question for ya. Let’s suppose that by some miracle a hardcore Pro-Lifer 100%-er like Huckabee or Brownback were to win the GOP Nomination.

You say, that if one of our libertarian-leaning Republicans like Rudy or Fred got the nomination, you just couldn’t support them. Fair enough.

But why should I, as a Pro-Choice Republican support a Brownback or Huckabee if they’re the Nominee? Particularly, when I’ve got ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY, begging with me, pleading with me, doing everything they possibly can to get me to “come back to the fold,” and support the LP Nominee?

Yes, the LP screwed up royally in 2004 with that knucklehead Nominee of theirs Michael Bandarik. But this go-around they’ve got so far, 3 (!!!) Multi-Millionaire Entrepreneurs seeking their Nomination.

The Libertarian Party will be running a strong Presidential candidate for 2008, probably strongest since Ed Clark in 1980.

Make your case. Why should I, as a libertarian Republican, support a Huckabee or Brownback for President if they’re the nominee, when I’ve got Social Cons, telling me to my face that if one of my guys wins the nod, they absolutely refuse to support them.

I got news for ya fella. The Constitution Party is an utter wreck. The Libertarian Party is about 50 times more organized and better situated than the CP heading into 2008.

Bottom line: I’ve got a choice. You don’t.

You either support the GOP Nominee or you sit out the Election.

I’ve got the option of voting GOP or LP.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

  7. (FOX interview with Chris Wallace)

WALLACE: As we said, perhaps the main reason that people are talking about you is this uneasy feeling among conservatives that there is not one of their own, a true conservative, in the field.

So let’s do a lightning round — quick questions, quick answers, a variety of issues — to see where Fred Thompson stands.

    THOMPSON: Um hmm.

    WALLACE: Abortion.

    THOMPSON: Pro-life.

WALLACE: Would you like to overturn Roe. …

THOMPSON: You said lightning round, now. If you want …

    WALLACE: Well, let’s go.

THOMPSON: … more, give me another question. I’ll work through it.

WALLACE: Do you want to overturn Roe vs. Wade?

THOMPSON: I think Roe vs. Wade was bad law and bad medical science. And the way to address that is through good judges. I don’t think the court ought to wake up one day and make new social policy for the country. It’s contrary to what it’s been the past 200 years.

We have a process in this country to do that. Judges shouldn’t be doing that. That’s what happened in that case. I think it was wrong.

  8. Huckabee or Brownback who are they? :w00t: I will not support Rudy for president (made a fine mayor for New York but not right for prez) I am on the fence with Fred but so far he is my front runner. I have no problem with Libertarian leanings as long as they don’t lean towards baby murder or a bong!

The Libertarian Party will be running a strong Presidential candidate for 2008

Why is their candidate a weight lifter. The strongest candidate libertarians could run (that I know of) is Neal Brootz and he said he wont run. I love Neal (not in a sexual way) but I disagree with him on enough issues that I would never vote for him for prez.

Support who you want I don’t give a squirting crap whether you support a republican or not. I care about who I am going to vote for, who you vote for is your decision.

You are right I do not have a choice, when you have integrity you only vote for the right candidate and not the lesser of 2 evils. If no candidate rises to my high standards then I will not vote. Yeah I said it. To all the “well at least this candidate would be better than a Dem” limp noodle conservatives out there, I highly suggest taking a few lessons about integrity. The reason why we lost in the last election was because we were being told to vote against something (Democrats) instead of vote for something (a conservative with integrity.)

I put nothing in my pipe to smoke it, I moved out of my parents house at 18 and learned from my ignorance that pot is not a victimless crime (it not only destroys rational thought, destroys families, increases the likelihood of the onset of mental illness, increases high school dropouts, can lead to your children being taken away by the state, can ruin you financially, and makes you think voting for a liberal candidate or a libertarian candidate is a good idea in the hopes that one of those insane fucking moonbats will legalize your stupid fucking law breaking.)

  9. Hey WB,

Quit beating around the bush and tell us how you really feel!

  10. LaurenW

As a Tennessee resident, I’m familiar with Fred Thompson’s merely marginal conservatism. I personally wrote to him several years ago, during his terms as a TN senator, to question his support of embryonic stem cell research. His response simply confirmed that he would be supporting this murderous research. I am largely libertarian, but not when it comes to the killing of innocent unborn citizens. They cannot speak for themselves - we much defend them.

In addition, Fred’s voting record has shown him to be somewhat anti-gun (see gunowners.org).

As a strongly pro-life voter & a lover of freedom, the only candidate I can fully support is Ron Paul. If you think no one’s taking him seriously, think again! He’s raised about $3 so far just TODAY! ronpaul2008.com
