Positive

It’s not really that bad.

In the last few years things have been less than stellar for me. Now I’m not half as good as this whole “positive thinking” racket as Bill but I’m trying to follow his lead here. I know that Thanksgiving was in November but regularly reminding yourself of that which you have to be thankful for certainly doesn’t hurt.

1. I live in the greatest, most free nation on Earth.
2. Though it’s a struggle sometimes I provide for all my own needs.
3. I don’t go to sleep hungry at night.
4. I’ve got a full range of motion control. Think about it, allot of people don’t. If you don’t have to get into a wheelchair to get around then you’ve got something to be thankful for.
5. I have all my senses still. Again, allot of people don’t.
6. I don’t have any non-curable disease.
7. I’ve got job I don’t hate.

These are just a few things but it gives you an idea of what to consider when making a list of your own.  We become obsessed with the things that are wrong in our lives and never stop to think that all things considered our lives really aren’t that bad.  You don’t live in Darfur.  You don’t have one of the new super strains of STD going around.  You don’t have Multiple Sclerosis.  No matter what difficulty you’re currently experiencing things could be worse so try being thankful for what you’ve got.  It really will brighten your day.

Having just returned from several Central American countries, I can say without a doubt that Americans are the most blessed people on earth. If I lost my job tomorrow, I’d still be able to find something to do to provide for my family. I will still have a warm, dry house, clean water, immediate available transportation, and the freedom to go wherever and whenever I choose. So many people in this world cannot say this.

I thought it was the end of the world when Bill Clinton took office and I was wrong, we survived. We shall overcome whatever befalls us in November.

    huh?
This site is called “Passionate America” yet you say you live in “the greatest, most free nation on Earth” .

Ok, the “greatest” part of your claim is completely subjective, and thus not worth arguing.
However, it’s the “most free” (freest?) part that I have a problem with.

We (you included, I think) live in a nation where our freedoms are dwindling.
It is no longer free to carry a firearm in most states.
Abortion is illegal, or heavily regulated in most states.
Prostitution is illegal in all states but Nevada.
Freedom of speech is restricted in times of war, and detainees in Guantanamo are being held for “verbal offenses”
We are one of 5 industrialized nations in the world with an income tax devoted more than 50% to our military.
Healthcare is scarce (humbling our inalienable freedom of life).
In fact, America is the ONLY industrialized nation that has a policy of NOT repealing laws, but re-writing laws to cancel undesired laws.
    The result?
We actually have more laws on the books than any other industrialized nation.

  3. Are you the “Wild Bill” that posted this in the Enid News and Eagle?

“DUI. they got what they deserved then. I hope Garfiled County prosecutes Mr. Lagan to the fullest extent of the law.

  4. Kristen, that wasn’t me that posted that comment on the Enid News and Eagles story. Looks like we might have a Wild Bill impostor.

Hey Norman, as I was driving passed the ‘truckers paradise’ I saw your mom climbing out of one of the semi’s, you should be thankful she can still turn tricks so you can live in her trailer. Just ’cause Hooked on phonics worked for you, please learn to spell.

  6. Right, there are lots of things in life to be appreciated, that we should be grateful and thankful of. Life is beautiful, so we must live to the fullest. We should not dwell thinking for the problems that comes our way, instead be thankful.

Mr Bill, try to open a book some day, named “Hitler”, a monumental biography by Nick Kershaw (considered to be the best biography ever written on Hitler by most historians). And read stuff about Clara, Hitler’s mother. You’ll see that she was a caring mother, that she did a good job, and that she may strictly not be considered responsible for what followed. Same goes for you. It’s quite possible that your mother was an open minded person who tried to teach you elementary human respect and tolerance; in which case she may strictly not be considered responsible for having a son behaving publicly like an asshole. Would I have been Allgier’s parents, I would have sued you for dozens of years.
