Frank Miller’s 300, the movie the left doesn’t want you to see.

ShadowFox

There’s a movie premiering today, a movie all red blooded men should want to see. I am of course talking “300“. I’ve wanted to see this since the trailer was prematurely leaked on the net months ago.

But not everybody wants to see it, or even wants you to see it for that matter. Dana Stevens of Slate Magazine has practically wet herself (or perhaps literally) with this tirade against the neocon “Nazi fantasy” movie. Yeah, this moonbat doesn’t even get pass her first paragraph before she triggers Godwin’s Law. Ace from Ace of Spades tears her review up, burns it and extinguishes the ashes in a familiar fashion this is wonderfully written post.

I too have some things to say about Ms. DeanHuffingtonKOS’s review.

But what’s maddening about 300 (besides the paralyzing monotony of watching chiseled white guys make shish kebabs from swarthy Persians for 116 indistinguishable minutes) is that no one involved—not Miller, not Snyder, not one of the army of screenwriters, art directors, and tech wizards who mounted this empty, gorgeous spectacle—seems to have noticed that we’re in the middle of an actual war. With actual Persians (or at least denizens of that vast swath of land once occupied by the Persian empire).

What the bloody H does that have to do with the price of rice?!? Does EVERYTHING have to be about Iraq with you people? Christ, you’ve even made global warming be about Iraq. Besides what did you expect the film maker to do? Have Leonidous suddenly turn to the camera in the middle of the battle and say “We’re going to die in this place just like American troops are dying in McBushitler’s lied-us-into-war quagmire in Iraq”? Somehow I don’t think he would’ve been saying that 2500 years ago. And in another sure sign a MoveOn type is reviewing this movie, she makes the literal facts on the ground of that time and place into a racial issue! Gee, sorry there wasn’t enough asians, native Americans and aboriginals in the city states of ancient Greece for your ‘progressive’ tastes Ms. Stevens.

One of the few war movies I’ve seen in the past two decades that doesn’t include at least some nod in the direction of antiwar sentiment, 300 is a mythic ode to righteous bellicosity.

To borrow what one of Ace’s commentors said, “And by Ares, it’s about godsdamned time. I haven’t been this stoked for a movie in years, and now my anticipation has just doubled.” Right there Dana tells the world that her entire review has NOTHING to do with the movie, the plot, the cinematography or anything else. This is about her personal extreme left political views and how dare a Hollywood studio release a movie that hasn’t been pre-approved by Cindy Sheehan. A movie that advances the idea that war is sometimes necessary and that sacrifice and death in battle is a heroic and noble thing? Al Gore forbid it!

The Persian commander, the god-king Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) is a towering, bald club fag with facial piercings, kohl-rimmed eyes, and a disturbing predilection for making people kneel before him.

Did she just call him an F2.0? As was also noted by Ace’s commentors, perhaps that whole kneeling thing had to do with him being a KING. Most KINGS have really had hard ons for that whole “kneel before me” thing.

Meanwhile, the Spartans, clad in naught but leather man-briefs, fight under the stern command of Leonidas (Gerard Butler), whose warrior ethic was forged during a childhood spent fighting wolves in the snow. Leonidas likes to rally the troops with bellowed speeches about “freedom,” “honor,” and “glory,” promising that they will be remembered for having created “a world free from mysticism and tyranny.” (The men’s usual response, a fist-pumping “A-whoo! A-whoo!” sounds strangely fratty.)

Hmm, I think all the red blooded women will also want to be seeing this movie now. As to Leonidas’s speech may I be the first to say A-whoo A-whoo!!! Here we find another of the left’s 10 Commandments being broken. Why no leader should be so sure of himself or his cause. This Leonidas fellow isn’t shown questioning himself, isn’t shown asking if his ideals or his country are “right”, isn’t shown crying and asking for the input of others. He dares to speak in absolutes and use such outdated jingoistic terms as “honor” and “glory”. Doesn’t he know that violence isn’t the answer? Why does this ‘cowboy’ ‘rush into war’? He should open a dialog with Xerxes and find room for compromise like the good little neutered metrosexuals do at the UN.

Theron wants to persuade the Spartan council not to send reinforcements to the desperately outnumbered 300 (what is he, a Democrat?). The noble and sexy Gorgo finally gives herself to Theron in exchange for a chance to persuade the council. “This will not be over quickly,” the villain warns as he pins her against a temple pillar. “You will not enjoy this.” It might have been Zack Snyder himself whispering in my ear, and he would have been right.

Well they didn’t call them Democrats back in ancient Greece, Dana dear. They called them “immoral traitorous cowards” and “weak filth that are less than men”. Do I sense a bit of venom in that description of Gorgo? Methinks Dana’s more sensual days are behind her and she’s become keenly aware of it. As for what Theron says, it does seem like something from modern times. It’s what the democrat party said to America after the 06 election and the action taking place is about the same too. If you take a trip over to the reviews of 300 at Rotten Tomatoes it clear that Dana isn’t alone on this. The entire left wing establishment has gotten their panties in a wad over this movie in a way I haven’t seen since Flight 93 came out.

I can’t wait to see this movie and in about 45 minutes I’ll be doing just that. In the meantime let me engage in some rather “non-progressive” activities. ‘Roll Tide’ blasting on the stereo with Hulk Hogan’s “I am a real American” cued up to play next, check. Club Gitmo shirt to wear to the premier, check. It’s too bad this had to premier now on a Friday. I’m sure I’ll be feeling like eat a big bloody chunk of animal flesh for dinner after this. Perhaps when the Spartans are slaughtering Persians left and right I should yell out “Yeah! Get those democrats!

  1. I just saw 300 and oh my god I wanted to kill a deer with my bare hands and eat it. The left is right to fear this movie. Real men will be reminded what having a set of testicles means. Leonidas’s wife (the Queen) has bigger balls than the average democrat.

Republicans stand as men, Democrats kneel as cowards.

    :w00t:

  2. I wonder if Dana will be forced into rehab for calling Xerxes a club fag. What exactly is a club fag, and what makes a club fag different than John Edwards?

If the answer to the first question is no, then why is faggot any more hurtful than club fag?

  3. Didn’t you get the memo FM? Rules only apply to the right.

  4. “The Spartans believed that the love of an older, accomplished aristocrat for an adolescent boy was essential to his formation as a free citizen. The education of the ruling class was thus founded on pederastic relationships, required of each citizen.[5] The ephors fined any eligible man who did not love a boy, because, despite his own excellence, he failed to make a beloved “similar to himself.”[6] Likewise, for a boy it was a disgrace to not find a lover,[7]. By the time they reached the age of twelve “there was not any of the more hopeful boys who did not have a lover to bear him company.”[8]”

Hope all those rightwing fans are getting inspired by the Spartans and their military culture … Those Marines who put up the flag on Iwo Jima should, per the historical logic of this movie, be wearing speedos, carrying tomahawks and hoisting a UN flag. Not that history matters to many who see the movie, please don’t try and draw any values from the presentation in this film..there is nothing historical or realistic about it..
