The ONLY acceptable thing in this bill would be the word "Veto", unfortunately we all know that won't be coming. This immigration bill is treason, nothing less.

The touchback provision (having to return home) will NOT be enforced, we all know that. The $5000 fine will NOT be enforced. The language requirement will NOT be enforced. None of the so called "penalties" will be enforced. To believe otherwise at this point is nativity.

I think you misunderstand way this revolt is taking place. It's not because we've given up on our principles and it's not because we're abandoning the party. Think of this more as an intervention. Just because we will no longer enable their bad behavior doesn't mean we don't care, in fact it's quite the opposite. We doing this because we care and the Republican Party is out of control. This amnesty bill is it's "Lindsey Lohan coked out in a car" moment. The exodus of the base and the donations freeze is a slap in the face to the leadership in a desperate attempt to bring them to their senses. If we lose this fight it's not just the end of the party, it's the end of our nation.

As for Bush, I'm sorry but the man is Persona Non Grata. He's the main cheerleader of this bill and most likely one of it's chief architects. The list of his other betrayals of Republican and Conservative principles could form a post in and of itself. He is the reverse of everything Reagan stood for. At this point many of us will not defend him against impeachment anymore.

Foxy, I hear what you are saying.Yet however, how do we settle for something that we for what we do not believe in? Am not saying you are wrong Foxy. But I am saying Congress, did pass the law to build the fence. And then they are trying to pass this bill to let more in. Do you see why the people who put Bush in office is turning on them, they fell like he has turned his back on them first. Now Foxy, I myself will not settle, my own ideas or what I believe in. But hey that is just me. So try to have a nice day.

Dear Fred-
Conservatism is a world view not a political ideology.

The US Border does not need "beefed-up security along America’s southern border" the US Border needs to be closed.

I saw your comment over at Dee's. You sounded upset, and so I came over to tell you that you are not alone. I'm not throwing Bush out with the bathwater either!

At first I was furious over this proposed immigration bill, but not furious enough to withhold my vote in 08 if it should pass. Many bloggers have been talking about doing just that. That would be the dumbest thing they could do. It would give the election to the Democrats. Angry conservatives already screwed up 06 and they should have learned from that.

I'm beginning to mellow out on the immigration bill as well. It doesn't approach this problem the way I would like it to be approached, but I'm not the president of the United States either. I am from Texas though, and I see this problem up close and personal on an almost daily basis. It's maddening! I want our borders closed. If this bill passes and the first thing they do is deal with the borders then I'm all for it.

So see.... you are not all alone out there. :)
