Why don't you go read the book before you start saying Gertz is an idoit. And No shit we helped Afghanistan fight against the Soviets, it was called the cold war.

"The arms trade is a lucrative business from which all countries profit" Wow their you said it, we just start wars to make money on weapons, right? Isn't that what you mean? So we should just stop fighting and let the TERRORISTS kill us all because we shouldn't make or sell weapons. What rock do you live under? Since you have all the answers what is the soulotion?

No shit. Ever heard of the mujahadeen in Afghanistan? We supported them against their war with the Soviets during the 1980s. They have one or two alumni who have since become a thorn in their side. Some guy named Osama bin Laden...I think that's his name. In other words many of the weapons floating around Afghanistan are of Soviet and US origin.

The arms trade is a lucrative business from which all countries profit, but no one wants to discuss. Sort of like the porn industry in this country. All the major corporations have a stake in it, but don't want to talk about it lest they appear profane. Gertz is an idiot if he is going to try and suggest that the US is not just as involved in arming the rest of the underdeveloped/non-statist world.
