I think you might be operating under a false assumption here Orange. That being that we either support Republicans trying to add amendments to this and make it better or we end up with the dem bill. There's a third way, a better way for us and the nation and that's no bill. We need to get the R's to just gum this thing up, filibuster it and make it unpassable. Even if the republican amendments get into it it's still a horrible, unacceptable monster. A sh*t sandwich is still a sh*t sandwich even if it comes with a side of fries.

Another problem is that the RINO caucus being led by John McClinton won't let amendments be made to his baby. He and the other usual suspects today defeated the Cornyn amendment. They won't allow this thing to come anywhere near being "fixed". It can be stopped but only if the rest of the party and whatever 1/2 reasonable democrats cross over work to that end. I'm still shocked senseless that my 2 donks are actually on the right side of this so there is hope.

Beside to be "political" about this, killing the bill would be extremely helpful to the party in 08 because it would force immigration to be a campaign issue. That's why McTreason and the dems are trying to ramrod this through now because it being a campaign issue is the LAST thing on Earth they want.
